English FAQ
How much does it cost?
Can I get a car immediately, anytime?
You can book a car by phone or via the website 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and if you call with your mobile phone from any one of our parking lots, you can drive your car off immediately. However, you are sharing the 180-200 cars (at 64 stations) with around 4,800 other participants (numbers from Dec. 2004)! We recommend that you plan accordingly: try to reserve a car for a time when not so many people need them.
What kind of cars have you got?
Six different price classes: from a Daihatsu Cuore to a Ford Focus stationwagon to a Fiat Scudo truck. In summer there's a convertible available (reserve early!) The average age of the cars is 18 months, and they are sold after 80,000 kilometers or 3 years.
How do I get the key?
Each of our parking spaces has an electronically secure safe with the car keys. You open the safe with your STATTAUTO chipcard after booking a car. Accessible 24/7.
May I take a car for a long time -- two weeks at a time even?
Certainly -- only your wallet determines the length and distance of your trip! Every six weeks you'll receive a detailed bill.
May I take the cars anywhere I like?
With STATTAUTO's own cars, you may drive anywhere. If you take a car to a non-EU country, you'll need a foreign-country slip from the main office. If you're driving an extra car that doesn't actually belong to STATTAUTO, you may only drive in EU countries. (More on this at the introductory meeting.)Is insurance included?
Yes. Every car has insurance papers, and your insurance is covered by the monthly fee. What about gas / petrol?
Gas / petrol is covered by the kilometer tarif. Each car has its own gas card which allows you to fill it up at any Shell, Dea, etc. station.
Do I really get a commission if I refer someone who becomes a participant?
Yes. CarSharing sells best by word of mouth and personal experience. Tell your friends, and if a friend referred you, tell us at the introductory meeting!
Do the cars have Vignettes? If not, do I have to pay for them myself?
Vignettes are travel costs and must be paid for by the individual participant. We do not keep track of which cars have valid vignettes.
What about snow chains, children's seats, ski racks, bike racks, etc. etc. etc.?
All those and more are available at no extra cost at the central office. They too must be reserved in advance, and are only available for pickup during office hours. For an extra fee they can either be placed in the reserved car or even mounted for you.
